Individualized Education Plan

          In November of 1975, PL 94-142 was signed into law by President Ford mandating appropriate and free education for students with disabilities.  During this time, the federal government assumed responsibilities to make sure states across the United States provided the appropriate education for students with disabilities.  Mandates were then outlined in PL 94-142, one being Individualized Education Plan (IEP) to serve as a guiding tool when working with students who have special needs.

     Individualized Education Plan is a "written document for each student with an identified disability (www.deafeducation4parents.com)."  It serves children from the ages of three to twenty-two.  It is written to satisfy each child's particular needs.  Needs that might be included on an IEP are placement options and additional resource services; such as Speech Therapy, Audiology services, and educational interpreters.  Once a child receives such services an IEP team will be developed.  IEP teams will meet annually and triennially to review the child's progress while determining if new educational goals need to be set for the child.
